Campaigners are urging the veterinary sector to support making pet abduction a specific criminal offense. The Pet Theft Reform campaign seeks to change the legal perception that views pets as property and estimates that up to 3,000 dogs are stolen from their owners every year. The campaign has gained over 16,000 signatures on a new online petition after previous measures to tackle the issue were dropped. [1]
