USA, Feb 15, 2024 - In a landmark move, the Beagle Freedom Project has successfully shut down one-third of the flea and tick product testing industry, putting an end to decades of cruel experimentation. This closure, announced on February 14th, marks a significant victory in animal welfare, sparing thousands of dogs and cats from future testing and purposeful breeding.

The Beagle Freedom Project has acquired the 30-acre property and facilities in Nowata, Oklahoma, where animals were previously subjected to testing. This site is being transformed into Freedom Fields, a sanctuary dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of animals previously used in testing, as well as those rescued from severe abuse.

More than 200 dogs and cats have been rescued from the now-closed laboratory, liberating them from a lifetime of toxic and painful experimentation. The animals are now safe under the care of the Beagle Freedom Project.

Freedom Fields will provide rescued animals with comprehensive medical care, nutritious food, spacious habitats, and most importantly, the love and freedom they have been deprived of for so long. The facility will also match rehabilitated animals with foster and adoptive families through its dedicated adoption coordination team.

President and Founder of the Beagle Freedom Project, Shannon Keith, expressed profound significance in this achievement, emphasizing the rescue of hundreds of animals from certain death and the transformation of a testing facility into a beacon of hope and rehabilitation.

The closure of the testing laboratory comes after extensive efforts by the Beagle Freedom Project to negotiate the relinquishment of the facility's USDA license. As of February 1, 2024, all testing at the site has ceased, and the animals have been surrendered to Beagle Freedom Project.

The Beagle Freedom Project aims to end the entire animal testing industry, advocating for safer and more ethical methods of pest management. Negotiations are already underway for the closure of another significant laboratory, and efforts are being made to promote natural alternatives to toxic chemical testing.

The closure of the testing laboratory in Oklahoma has garnered widespread support from advocates and legislators, recognizing it as a crucial step towards advancing animal rights and welfare.

The Beagle Freedom Project, established in 2010, has been at the forefront of rescuing animals used in laboratory testing. Their work extends beyond rescue to education, advocacy, and legislative efforts aimed at ending the use of animals in testing.
