Wild Koala Day is an annual event observed on May 3rd that aims to raise awareness about the plight of wild koalas and their habitat.
Koalas are marsupials native to Australia and are known for their cuddly appearance and eucalyptus leaf diet. However, koalas are facing several threats, including habitat loss, disease, and climate change.
It is estimated that there are less than 100,000 koalas remaining in their natural habitat, with the possibility of the number being as low as 43,000.
